Professor Clement Adebooye, Vice Chancellor of Osun State University, Uniosun VC, has pleaded with newly enrolled nurses not to flee the nation.

Speaking at the third induction/oath-taking ceremony for 40 newly registered nurses at Osun State University, he urged the nurses to remain and contribute to the growth of the nation’s health sector.

“We need to instill a sense of patriotism throughout the country. Because the constitution does not restrict anybody from pursuing opportunities anyplace they choose around the world, all we need to do is recreate those circumstances in our own community; otherwise, we will lose them.

The most we can do, then, is to foster an atmosphere that encourages individuals to stay and work in our country. The issue we have is that we continually teach these individuals, but as soon as they complete their education, other nations seize them to work in their healthcare industries. Since we are losing, we must establish that circumstance here.

“With your experience in this field, you have the ability to travel anywhere, but I would prefer that you stay in Nigeria. You want to escape this nation, I know that. Nigeria is going to improve, he said.

While stressing the need for government at various levels to create an enabling environment for health workers to thrive in the country, he urged the new inductees to be part of the development process in the country.
